Ah, the city life. Tonight as I was working on the blog I noticed the beautiful sunset before my eyes. I just wanted everyone else to see the view from our balcony. Sweet huh?

It's been a little while...

Well, now that the dust has settled in the new place--(again!) here are more pictures to add to the collection. Included are Crater Lake pictures from our trip in August as well as Jon's friend Dave and Betsey Poniatowski's September nuptuals in Denver, CO.

Phantom Ship

Phantom ship is the name given to this unique rock formation in Crater Lake. It was once part of the rim, but its neighboring softer rock gave way to erosion. This island of rock looks like one of those old ghost ships from far away.

From the top of Wizard Island

After the cataclysmic collapse of Mt. Mazama, a caldera was formed encompassing what is now Crater Lake. After the explosion, ash covered an area as far east as present day Nebraska. Additional volcanoes erupted in the following years above and below the surface of the lake. From the boat tour we were able to summit Wizard Island-- the lone visible volcano at the surface. This image is atop Wizard Island.

A Clear Reflection

Notice how Crater Lake appears glass-like. Jon caught the reflection of the rim's sides just before we motored by during the boat tour.

Proxy Falls

This is Proxy Falls, another frequently photographed waterfall along HW 242. The beauty of this fall comes from the multitude of smaller rocks, almost like "stairs" which guide the fall's direction rather than the usual, large gush of water. Make sure that you visit early in the day--this shot was taken around 5pm, much too late to avoid the sun's shadow. I have to say, this one is much better in person.

Haceta Head Lighthouse

Haceta Head Lighthouse on a very windy day. My other picture of the lighthouse up close didn't turn out as well. I could barely keep my body upright :) I bet this would be the money shot on a calmer, sunny day.

Ripples in the Sand

The wind constantly changes the landscape of the shore near Florence. The mix of dune-like sand and hills along with the trees in the backdrop make for nice scenery.
