Billy Chinook State Park, Madras, Oregon

Here are some pics of our weekend trip to Billy Chinook Lake. It's a cavernous lake found deep in a canyon near Madras, Oregon. This is high desert at its finest.

Steph at Cape Flattery. Cape Flattery is the most NW point in the continental US. You have to enter the Makah Indian Reservation to visit.

Point of the Arches, Shi Shi Beach Wilderness. Jon and I had to hike 10 miles round-trip to get to this point. Shi Shi is wilderness beach only accessible by foot. Shi Shi is ranked as one of the best beaches in the world. We only ran into about 4 other couples on our way.

Steph at Cape Flattery with Tatoosh Island in the background. Tatoosh is used as a Coast Guard station and lighthouse guiding ships between the Pacific and the Strait of Juan de Fuca.



Jon, Todd, and I were going to hike one of the trails near the Hurricane Ridge Visitor's center, but when we came to an overlook, we spotted this resident mountain goat that's been causing a lot of trouble. Apparently he had been trying to attack tourists and hikers. There was a sign posted that said to make lots of noise and be prepared to throw rocks at the goat to make it go away. I thought Jon had seen the sign when he decided to get this close....oops. We were ok, but it did end up following us all the way back down the trail. I was outta there fast.


Sol Duc Falls, Sol Duc Falls trail, Sol Duc Hot Springs. Todd, Kirstin, Jon and I visited Sol Duc natural hot springs in the rainforest section of Olympic. Jon and I took off on a short hike to reach these beautiful falls reminiscent of Triple Falls in the gorge in Oregon.

Can you spot me? I love this picture and plan on blowing it up for the bedroom. I just love that the scenery is so beautiful and I'm just hanging out in the corner. It's on the Sol Duc Falls trail in the rainforest section near Sol Duc Hot Springs.

Ok, so in case you can't see the burn, click on the pic to get up close. So I'm holding the sunscreen bottle that I used to apply the sunblock in streaks. I achieved quite the artistic burn because of my wonderful application skilz.

Alaska-- 2007

Yellow Jumpsuit Party? Why wasn't I invited? All of the crew at Kain's Fishing Adventures, Year 2, Sitka, Alaska.

Like Father, Like Son.

Jon Janske grins (left) as his guests catch some massive fish. The rumor is that Jon's expert guidance led the Thomas and Co. crew to net the most fish every day during their stay at Kain's.

This little lad is one of the help on the boat. I love that the fish is half as big as he is. Crikey! The fish is 22 lb. and is about 85-90 years old.



Yum! An assortment of goodies. Yes, we took home 100 lbs. ourselves. Yeah for Jon. We had to buy a 5 ft. freezer to hold it. Fish party at someone's house? Any takers?

Silver Falls, March 2007

Jon and I visited Silver Falls in March. We had just received an ice storm, so much of the trail was icy. This hike was cool because you can hike around behind the waterfall. Silver Falls is south of Portland, near Salem, our state capital.

Neskowin, Westwind, May 2007

The Jon Janske clan had another great year at Westwind! Westwind is the YWCA camp that we rent out on the Oregon coast between Neskowin and Lincoln City. It's in a private cove that's only accessible by boat during high tide. You must cross a river to get to it, and hopefully you'll be able to see it in the panorama.

Jon and I did the Cascade Head hike which leads up to a bluff where I snagged the panorama view of the cove. We also did a shorter hike with the group to a bluff on the other side. That's where all the green hill people pictures are from.

A great time was had by all and we can't wait until next year. Jon and I attended our first Westwind trip in 2005.
